I hear this is standard and the idea is that you're supposed to hand them out for free to your friends and family, like some sort of communist. Yeah, right. If you want my sweet, sweet friendship you are going to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps and buy my book just like everyone else because I'm sorry, this is AMERICA.

But the problem here is that now I don't know what to do with all these books. Hand them out to acquaintances? Take them to libraries? Build a little fort for my cat? I am not sure that would work because my cat is quite big and there aren't really enough books and she'd probably just prefer the empty box to be honest. Other writers who are probably smarter than me, what did you do?

Anyway as you can see the book is SUPER GREAT and it has PICTURES AND EVERYTHING and it comes out in December so that makes it a great holiday present for people you care about enough to spend $8.51 on! So if you haven't ordered it yet what the hell is wrong with you do you want my cat to starve is that what you want

You are supposed to doing speaking engagements and have your books available for sale in the foyer.

Also, sorry, but you ARE supposed to give them as Christmas presents. But only to people for whom you usually get presents.

The third thing is that you're supposed to use them as a marketing swag thing. "Hire me, see, I've already written this book, here, have one!"

Congratulations! I vote for leaving them in the box until the right moment for them to depart, and giving your cat a paper bag to play with, instead.

Thank you! :)

I don't know, it seems a bit weird to give people my own book as a Christmas present. Like giving them a framed photo of myself.

I gave two away to relatives today though. I couldn't resist and I need to get rid of them before the cat throws up on them or something.

Congratulations!

You can sign them. Or have your cat sign them.

Thanks!

You know I bet if I brought my cat to a book signing I'd sell a ton. Shame it is probably against bookstore regulations.

Thank you!

It doesn't seem to be on Australian Amazon (which I only just realized existed... I have been away too long). I hope they sell it there at one point so I can better bully family members into buying it!

Also, that Amazon Australia sure does have a lot of half-naked dudes on the front page.

Looks like it only opened in 2014. I wonder if they have Prime yet? Amazon Prime is like number 4 on my list of Reasons To Stay In America For Now.

Number 1 on my list of Reasons Why Australia is Lacking is that I cannot get decent ikura here. Well, that and the 1950's-in-the-US level pervasive racism I guess.

No decent ikura? Really? Maybe you're just looking in the wrong places. What city are you in?

Number one on my list is that my husband is The Most American Person Who Ever Lived and I'm afraid Australians will be xenophobic toward him.

I'm in Melbourne. All of the salmon roe we can get here is in glass jars (or potentially worse) and is of indeterminate age. None of the markets get whole salmon--it's already been gutted. None of the salmon fisheries I've been able to contact will sell me the raw roe.

It is very sad.
